Do I have to do any paperwork once I am hired?

The HR department will send you a link prior to your start date to complete your new hire paperwork online. The remainder of the new hire paperwork will be done onsite and before you start working. At that time, you will be enrolled in the Time Clock and your uniforms will be issued. You will not be able to start working for us until you have provided these documents and followed through with all HR requirements. There will be no exceptions, so please come prepared. The Human Resources office is open six days a week during the summer season.

If hired, what should I bring?

We suggest you bring clothing for four seasons to be ready for rainy days and colder nights, as well as the required items to accompany your uniform. Please avoid bringing large electronics, stereo systems, any cooking or heating equipment, and multi-outlet plugs. You may bring a small TV with you. Here are some additional items that you may want to bring:

  • Full rain gear (jacket, pants, and boots) and umbrella
  • Bike & lock (you will need to get a license at the police station)
  • Backpack
  • Waterproof spray
  • Coat with or a hood and hat and gloves along with boots or rain boots
  • Hangers and iron for your clothing
  • Laundering items; laundry bag to take clothes to the laundry area
  • Organizational contains for the bathroom, clothes, shoes, snacks, etc.
  • Power cords and power strip
  • Bring 2 of everything you need for toiletries, etc. It’s easier to have stuff on hand!

I-9 Documentation: Bring originals, no copies, or faxes, of your I-9 documents. Visit https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents for a list of acceptable documents.

Are there places on the island to buy groceries and other supplies?

Mackinac Island has a variety of small retail stores. There is a grocery store, Doud’s Market, that is open year-round. Other grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and large stores like Walmart are located off island and require a car, shuttle or bus to get to.

I worked at Grand Hotel last season and want to come back to work this season. What should I do?

You will be contacted and invited to apply for the position you are interested in by Human Resources once the positions are posted.

I applied online. What do I do now?

We review applications daily and will contact you for an interview if we think you may be a great candidate for the open position and you meet all the job requirements. Attaching a resume is not required, but helpful. Please make sure to complete the whole application, we cannot accept incomplete applications.

I’m interested in working for Grand Hotel year-round. Do you only post seasonal positions?

Most of the positions we are looking to fill are for the summer season. We work with other seasonal Davidson Properties who offer housing in Utah, Colorado, and Florida to give our team an opportunity for year-round employment if interested. We do have several year-round positions available at Grand Hotel in sales & events, security, housing, engineering, and food & beverage.

What if I can’t find the job I want online?

If the job you’re looking for is not posted online, you can send your resume to [email protected] or check for other open positions you may be interested in.

When should I apply for a job?

We start posting jobs for the upcoming season in early December for a start date in April. We can work with a later start date for some seasonal positions, with a start date as late as mid May.

How do I apply?

Please apply online at Grand Hotel Job Opportunities | Grand Hotel. Click on “View Openings” to see what jobs are currently available. Click on a job to read more about it.

Mackinac Island Transportation

Grand Hotel is a place that does things differently. Starting with how to get there.

Transportation on Mackinac Island, besides walking, is by bike or taxi. The taxi is a horse-drawn carriage as no motorized vehicles are allowed on the Island. We offer the option of summer bike rentals to all our Team Members.

Transportation to the island is provided by two ferry companies: Shepler’s and Starline.

The closest airports are Traverse City (TVC), Pellston (PLN) and Sault Saint Marie (CIU). From the airport, you will need to reserve a shuttle to get to St. Ignace or Mackinaw City where the ferries depart. Please contact HR for more info on the shuttle companies.
