Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island are truly unique destinations. Before you visit us, here are a few things to know to make your trip even easier.
Cancellation and Deposit Policy
In order to confirm reservations, we do require payment for the first two evenings as a deposit, either on Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. If you are staying more than two evenings, the balance of your stay will be charged 30 days prior to your scheduled arrival. If staying only one evening, payment in full is required at the time of reservation. Included with the deposit charged is a $12.00 per person, per stay fee for the round-trip transfer of luggage between the dock and the hotel.
Your reservation deposit will be refunded, less a $50.00 processing fee, with notice of cancellation at least 30 days prior to your scheduled arrival. Reservations canceled less than 30 days prior will forfeit their room deposits.
Check-In and Check-Out
Check-in time is after 4:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 AM. Every effort will be made to accommodate early arrivals and late check-outs. Please notify Grand Hotel if you have any special requests.
Grand Hotel is able to accommodate most dietary needs. In addition, all menus in our Main Dining Room include vegetarian and gluten-free options.
For Meetings, Celebrations, and Events
If your group has any private meals booked where a menu is created just for the group, please alert your group contact who will work with the hotel planner to make sure all your guests with dietary concerns have appropriate options. For all other meals, including breakfasts, luncheons and dinners in our Main Dining Room please let our waitstaff know of any dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate.
Since Grand Hotel is a resort, we want you to feel at ease and dress comfortably. During the day, casual resort clothing is appropriate. Prior to 6:30 PM, please no midriff-baring tops, sweatpants, or cut-off shorts for ladies. For gentlemen, no sleeveless shirts, sweatpants, or cut-off shorts.
Because every evening at Grand Hotel is a special occasion, after 6:30 PM in main areas of the hotel dresses, skirts, blouses, dress sweaters, and dress slacks for ladies are preferred, while gentlemen are required to wear a suit or sport coat, necktie, and dress pants (no denim or shorts). This applies for all areas inside the hotel including the Parlor, Lobby, Terrace, and Main Dining Room, with the exception of the Cupola Bar. Children 12 years and older are expected to be in dress similar to adults.

Getting Here from the Boat Docks
Grand Hotel is a 15- to 20-minute walk from the boat docks. For your convenience, Grand Hotel operates horse-drawn carriages between the docks and Grand Hotel. As with all taxi services on Mackinac Island, there is a $8.00 per person fee, cash only, and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. We cannot guarantee Grand Hotel carriages will meet all ferry boats, nor can we guarantee seats for all Grand Hotel guests.
If you arrive by ferry, luggage transfer is simple and convenient. When you check in your luggage with the ferry service on the mainland, it will be tagged and delivered directly to your hotel room. Upon check-in, present your luggage tags at the front desk. If you are arriving close to 6:00 PM, you may want to bring your evening wear with you to the hotel as luggage transfer may take up to three hours to get to the hotel from the dock.
For your return trip back to the mainland, follow the in-room instructions. Your luggage will be tagged and transferred from your room to a secure location on the appropriate mainland dock. We request a minimum three-hour window for the transfer. Guests departing by ferry prior to 9:00 AM should transfer their own luggage to the dock. Please note that an added fee of $12.00 per person, per stay, applies for the round-trip transfer of luggage.
Mackinac Island enjoys a mild spring, temperate summer, and crisp fall temperatures. Because the Island is located in the middle of the Straits of Mackinac, weather can be unpredictable. We recommend packing layers — and don’t forget your walking shoes.
