Where Tradition Meets Transformation:
Supporting Women’s Journeys at Grand Hotel

At Grand Hotel, we believe that together we are stronger and by supporting one another, we create a future where everyone can thrive. In this spirit, we are proud to share two new partnerships that bring heart and purpose to your Grand Hotel experience. This season, we’ve joined forces with Hon’s Honey and Mend on the Move, two remarkable organizations dedicated to empowering and employing women survivors of abuse. Hon’s Honey also supports women who have experienced trauma, sex trafficking, addiction, and generational poverty. Through handcrafted products and healing-centered employment, both organizations help women rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence, and independence.

To support their missions, you’ll now find Hon’s Honey’s natural honeys throughout Grand Hotel’s dining outlets, and a selection of honey, honey-infused bath products and candles at Grand Coffee & Provisions. Mend on the Move’s beautiful upcycled jewelry is available onsite at Grand Hotel Mackinac Market and at Mackinac Market on Main Street. Every purchase supports these women on their path to healing and hope.

We invite you to explore their stories below and discover how each product makes a lasting impact one thoughtful purchase at a time.

The Impact of Hon’s Honey:
Restoring Dignity to Women in South Baltimore

In South Baltimore, where poverty, addiction, and human trafficking challenge many women’s lives, Hon’s Honey shines as a beacon of hope. As a social enterprise under the nonprofit The Well, Hon’s Honey offers more than employment, it offers healing. Women survivors of trauma receive not just jobs, but mentorship, community, and support to rebuild every aspect of their lives.

Founded in 2013, The Well provides free childcare, outreach, residential programs, and holistic care. Hon’s Honey grew from this foundation, creating a purpose-driven workspace where women craft naturally infused honeys, bath products, and hand-poured candles, all made with care, natural ingredients, and essential oils.

“Our products are a vehicle for survivors to create something beautiful,” says Sarah Batley, Hon’s Honey Senior Director. “They are proud of every item that leaves our doors. The partnership with Grand Hotel amplifies this pride and purpose, proving that meaningful hospitality is about more than luxury. It’s about impact.”

Now, through our partnership, that pride is shared with Grand Hotel guests, who become part of each woman’s journey, supporting healing, independence, and a future filled with possibility with their product purchase.

Mend on the Move:
A Story of Strength, Healing, and Hope in Detroit

At Mend on the Move in Detroit, women survivors of abuse are finding healing through meaningful employment by working with their hands, their hearts, and their courage. Using salvaged car seat leather and auto parts donated by the local auto industry, they transform discarded materials into handcrafted jewelry that carries the weight of their stories and the beauty of their resilience.

The work is more than just a job, it’s a path to independence, dignity, and healing. Through their craft, these women rediscover purpose and power, surrounded by a supportive sisterhood that understands their journey from survival to strength.

The jewelry created by Mend on the Move is now available at both Grand Hotel Mackinac Market locations. Each piece is as unique as the woman who made it and is handcrafted with courage, marked by resilience and rooted in hope.

When you purchase Mend on the Move jewelry, you do more than buy something beautiful. You invest in a woman’s future by supporting a Detroit-based nonprofit that believes in second chances, creative healing, and the unshakable power of community. Thank you for being part of this community of empowerment and healing.

Grand History

Enduring Bonds, Timeless Traditions:
Honoring Grand Hotel’s Legacy Groups

There are places that stay with us. Not just as backdrops to events, but as chapters in our lives. For more than a century, Grand Hotel has been proud to serve as that place for a remarkable number of returning groups whose loyalty is etched not only in time but in shared experiences, meaningful connections, and traditions passed from one generation to the next.

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan first gathered here 105 years ago. Each season since, they have returned to the Front Porch and familiar halls, carrying with them more than a century of memories. The Michigan Health & Hospital Association, with 104 years of consecutive visits, is another enduring presence that speaks to the deep and lasting relationships built here.

These are not merely meetings. They are homecomings. The Michigan Bankers Association, now in its 85th year, the Knights of Columbus in their 79th, and mParks in their 56th, remind us that the true legacy of Grand Hotel is not just found in its architecture or history, but in the people who return year after year to gather, reflect, and reconnect.

Some bring their work. Others bring their faith. But all bring their stories. WinSome Women, Celebrate Ministries, and Medical Education Resources have created retreats that inspire. The Detroit Regional Chamber and Michigan Realtors foster leadership and dialogue. Each group adds something meaningful to the spirit of the season.

Their presence is felt in the early morning quiet of the porch, in the lively laughter echoing down the halls, and in the quiet conversations over coffee as the lilacs bloom. These are moments that define the Grand Hotel experience.

“Grand Hotel is proud to have long-standing partnerships with many returning clients, whose continued enthusiasm for Grand Hotel is deeply valued,” Grand Hotel President David Jurcak says. “These legacy groups return year after year to give their attendees exceptional hospitality,  timeless traditions, and countless memories they have come to cherish. We are honored to be a part of their enduring story and look forward to welcoming them back for generations to come.”

To each of our legacy groups, we offer our heartfelt gratitude. Your return is not taken for granted. Your trust humbles us. And your traditions have become part of our own. We look forward to welcoming you back, as we always have, with open doors and open hearts.

Legacy in Bloom:
A Season of Honors at Grand Hotel

At Grand Hotel, excellence isn’t just a goal, it’s a way of life passed down through generations of dedicated individuals. This year, that legacy has come into full bloom as Grand Hotel celebrates a season of remarkable recognition and heartfelt appreciation for the people who bring its story to life.

In March 2025, Grand Hotel received a sweep of honors at the Davidson Hospitality Leadership Summit, earning four of the highest awards in the resort category: Resort Team of the Year, Resort Sales Team of the Year, Resort Marketing Team of the Year, and Resort Food and Beverage Team of the Year. These accolades recognize not only professional excellence but the deep pride, collaboration, and passion that define every guest experience at Grand Hotel.

Equally inspiring is the Grand Hotel 2025 Team of the Year, awarded to the Grounds and Gardens Team. Led by Drew Butterfield, this team is responsible for the breathtaking beauty that defines Grand Hotel’s surroundings, from immaculate landscaping to the planting of over 100,000 blooms each spring. Their tireless efforts make every stroll through the gardens an experience of wonderment.

At the heart of this celebration are the people behind the scenes. In 2024, the Grand Legend Award was bestowed to three individuals whose lasting contributions continue to shape the spirit of the hotel: Annie Farrell, who helped grow Grand Hotel’s legacy through long-standing client relationships; Kathy Williams, whose 43 seasons as Laundry Manager embody quiet leadership and heartfelt service; and Richard and Jane Manoogian, whose generous support of Mackinac Island’s artistic and cultural life enriches the entire island.

Together, these honors tell a larger story of shared dedication, quiet excellence, and a timeless commitment to something greater than any single person or role. At Grand Hotel, it’s not just about awards. It’s about the people who give their best every day to create something unforgettable. And it’s clear that their work is not only seen, it’s deeply valued and richly celebrated.
