Something different, something unique, The Jewel is the only golf course in the United States with horse-drawn carriage rides between nines. Add in a fantastic layout and beautiful location, and no wonder it’s been awarded Editor’s Choice “Best Grand & Boutique Golf Hotels” by Golf Digest.

The Jewel Grand Nine Hours:
May – June
7:00 AM to Dusk or 8:00 PM Daily

July – August
7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Daily

September – October

The Jewel Woods Nine Hours:
May – October
8:00AM to 5:00 PM Daily

Please note: The Jewel is a public course open to guests and non-guests alike and will be open May 1, 2026 – October 24, 2026. Woods Nine will be open May 15, 2026 – October 11, 2026. Last 18 hole round tees off at 1:04 PM due to shuttle/transportation between nines.

Online tee times are displayed at the General Public rate. Hotel Guests are welcome to book online and will receive the applicable hotel guest rate upon check-in at the golf shop. Payment isn’t required until day of tee time.

The Jewel Golf Course

The Grand nine, located across from Grand Hotel with views of the Straits of Mackinac, was built in 1901 and redesigned in 1987 by golf course architect Jerry Matthews. In 1994, he also designed the Woods nine, located in the interior of Mackinac Island showcasing views of the Mackinac Bridge and the Upper Peninsula.

Together they comprise The Jewel, the resort’s 18-hole golf course. Separated by a mile-and-a-half, enjoy a leisurely, horse-drawn carriage ride between the nines and view parts of the island unseen by many visitors.

The Jewel’s par-3 7th hole combines difficulty with breathtaking Pure Michigan scenery. Perhaps that’s why it’s ranked one of the top 18 holes in Michigan.

For 125 years, golf at Grand Hotel has been a cherished Mackinac Island tradition. To mark this milestone, we’re proud to unveil a commemorative logo and celebrate all season with special golf offerings.

Celebrate all season with special twilight golf savings at the Grand Nine: Two Twilight Rounds for $125 or Four Twilight Rounds for $250, including cart and club rental.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, enjoy nine holes with cart, a sleeve of commemorative logo golf balls, and a ball marker for $125.

In August, join Grant DeMoss and Ryan Lenahan for The Jewel Classic golf package, featuring accommodations, meals, unlimited golf, instruction, and a tournament experience with awards and prizes.

Tee Times, Lessons & Rentals

Driving Ranges

Warm up and refine your skills at the driving range. Both the front Grand nine and the back Woods nine have a driving range net that accommodates up to four players at a time, which is included when paying green fees at The Jewel. If you are playing the course, you will receive 50 golf balls for use at the driving range.

Men’s Golf Dress Code (No Jeans)

Collared shirts (e.g., polo shirts)
Golf-specific mock neck shirts
Slacks or tailored golf trousers
Bermuda-length shorts
Golf shoes with soft spikes
Caps or visors worn forward

Not Allowed:

Jeans or denim of any kind
Cargo shorts/pants
T-shirts or tank tops
Gym shorts or basketball shorts
Flip-flops or sandals
