Preserving Grand Hotel

Your Contribution

Grand Hotel has stood as a beacon of elegance and history on Mackinac Island since 1887. As a National Historic Landmark, we understand the importance of preserving our rich heritage. Our goal is to continue honoring this legacy for the next 100 years and beyond for generations to come.

To ensure the preservation of Grand Hotel’s iconic status, we have established the Historic Preservation Fund. This fund is supported by a modest fee of 1.887% on select purchases made by our valued guests. By contributing to this fund, our guests play an integral role in safeguarding the remarkable landmarks that define Grand Hotel. All money is used towards our preservation as a National Historic Landmark.

We take great pride in our history and the stories that have unfolded within our walls for the past 137 years. By embracing our responsibility as stewards of this National Historic Landmark, we are dedicated to not only protecting our past but also creating a foundation for future guests.

Progress on the Roofline

Restoration of the original roofline has begun and was noticeable by guests and visitors this season in 2023. This piece of the original roofline was left behind in the 1920’s when architects decided to raise the roof of Grand Hotel to build additional guest rooms that were previously used as team member housing. In the 1950’s as more projects began this piece of architecture was removed as a fault of deterioration and replaced with siding.

With the current restoration plan the original roofline will be added back, along with shingles  in replace of the siding added in the 1950’s.
