Ferries to Mackinac Island can be accessed by driving to Mackinaw City (on Michigan's lower peninsula) or St. Ignace (upper peninsula). Get driving directions to Mackinaw City or St. Ignace.

Ferry Service to Mackinac Island

Passage to Mackinac Island is provided by several ferry boat lines. Registered guests of Grand Hotel receive a discount by using Shepler's Ferry and can purchase tickets directly online. In addition to ferry boat tickets, Grand Luncheon Buffet tickets and admission to Grand Hotel (for non-hotel guests) can be also be purchased through Shepler's Ferry.

All ferry boat lines provide service from May to November. The boats operate from early morning until early evening, with frequent crossings throughout the day. All ferry boat lines operate from Mackinaw City and St. Ignace, Michigan. Luggage transfer is simple and convenient, with assistance provided on both the mainland and on Mackinac Island.


Ample parking is available at all mainland ferry docks. All ferry lines offer complimentary outdoor parking. Indoor and valet parking is available for nominal charges.


It's a short walk from the ferry docks to Grand Hotel. Horse-drawn taxi service is also available for a nominal fee. Taxis greet all ferry boats arriving at Mackinac Island.

By Air

Mackinac Island Airport (MCD):

Mackinac Island Airport’s 3,500-foot lighted, paved runway is capable of accommodating private and charter aircraft. The airport is one mile from Grand Hotel. Horse-drawn taxi service is available from the airport to Grand Hotel. For more information, please call (906) 847-3323.

Charter Airlines:

Fly from you home town airport fixed-base operator to Mackinac Island on our partner, North Country Aviation’s, private charter planes, Air Carrier Certificate N4CA490Y.  Planes are available for private use and must be reserved in their entirety. Pellston Regional Airport (PLN):

Pellston Regional Airport is located 12 miles south of Mackinaw City. Air taxi service between the Pellston Regional Airport and Mackinac Island Airport are available 24 hours a day. For information, call Great Lakes Air at (906) 643-7327.

Commercial Airlines:

Commercial air service to Pellston is available daily through Delta Airlink in Detroit.

Limousine and Shuttle Service:

Mackinaw Shuttle and Wolverine Stages are two Pellston, Michigan Airport based companies that offer taxi service between the Pellston Airport and the Mackinaw City ferry docks along with other Michigan cities on a 24-hour basis. This service is also available on a charter basis. Reservations are recommended.
