2015 Mackinac Policy Conference #MPC15

Since the spring of 1981 the Detroit Regional Chamber has been coming to Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel for its annual Mackinac Policy Conference. For the 35th consecutive year, Grand Hotel enjoyed hosting this special event. Various business professionals and government officials from around the State of Michigan came to meet for 4 days to discuss current topics and make important decisions. Some of these people included Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, Mike Rowe from mikeroweWORKS foundation, University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel, Mayor of Detroit, Mike Duggan, among many others.

The entire hotel is transformed into a meeting space using every room and resource available.

The Smartphone app developed specifically for the conference and the iPad station for attendee use was available again this year. The Blogger Zone was also a hot spot for conference attendees who were looking to get information out as it was happening. Blogger Zone

The opening dinner at Grand Stables kicked the week off to a great start! Over 800 people gathered for cocktails and a strolling dinner.

The conference had three key visions that drove its success:

Talent: Deepen Michigan’s talent base through attraction and retention and by connecting individuals with opportunities.

Urban Revitalization: Drive innovative approaches to transforming Michigan’s historic and new urban centers to foster business growth, financial stability, infrastructure improvements and placemaking.

Cohesion: Inspire a commitment among Michigan’s leaders to speak with “One Michigan Voice” built on a foundation of shared values and the overarching ethos of “doing well, by doing good.”

The next few days included presentations and discussions about these visions such as fixing Michigan’s struggling schools, building a world-class talent pipeline, maintaining a sustainable food economy, Detroit transportation, 2016 elections, and the art of cohesion. A spark lit every conference room as hundreds gathered in efforts of listening, discussing, and discovering this year’s most important topics.

Thank you to the Detroit Regional Chamber for bringing this year’s conference to Grand Hotel.
