Presenting Inside Grand Hotel produced by Detroit Public Television
“Grand Hotel is an iconic and lovely structure that inspires people, creating memories is the one thing that guests take away and that becomes part of their lives.” – Dan Musser, III President
As Grand Hotel celebrates its 130th Anniversary season this year the Musser family and Detroit Public Television are pleased to present Inside Grand Hotel. This documentary goes behind the scenes into some of the hotel’s most interesting spaces, telling the stories of its owners, caretakers, and dedicated employees who have kept and nurtured this National Historic Landmark for 130 years.
Over 6 months in 2016, Grand Hotel worked with Detroit Public Television to film various people, spaces, and events to create this 1-hour long film narrated by longtime friend of Grand Hotel, Paul W. Smith of WJR-AM. Many long-time employees were interviewed and celebrities, including Jane Seymour, Elise McKenna from Somewhere in Time and Carleton Varney, the hotel’s longtime interior designer since 1976 and President of Dorothy Draper, Co.
On March 1st, 2017 Inside Grand Hotel premiered at the Gem Theatre in Detroit with a private screening with an audience of 400 attendees. March 2nd the documentary aired on WTVS – Detroit Public Television.
