Historic Hotels of America is an association founded in 1989 to promote heritage tourism. Historic Hotels of America has identified over 235 quality hotels that have faithfully maintained their historic integrity, architecture and ambiance. To be selected for this program, a hotel must be at least 50 years old, listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places or recognized locally as having historic significance. Grand Hotel has been a member of this association for many years and 21 new members joined the association in 2013.
The annual Historic Hotels of America meeting was held this year at the beautiful, 120 year old, Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The week was filled with informative speakers discussing the history of hotels in America. From the first small taverns housing guests in small shared rooms, to the building of luxurious structures such as Grand Hotel. The highlight of the event for us was Hotel Historian and Concierge, Bob Tagatz winning the Hotel Historian of the Year Award. To be chosen as the “best of the best” by his peers was a big surprise for Bob. Of course, we know he does an amazing job and that this is a well deserved award, as we are sure anyone who has attended one of his lectures would agree. The hotel staff could not be happier for Bob and hope that you will all join us in congratulating him.
